Best Seasons for Heli flight to Lukla

Most people and social media have described Lukla Tenzing & Hillary Airport as dangerous. Which is wrong and missed looked, it is not dangerous at all, the proper word to describe Lukla’s airport. Information About Lukla

Lukla is a moderate town with an airport, where regular flights flies in and out of Kathmandu. It is situated, at a height of 2,860 meters or 9,383 feet high in the mountainous regions of Solu Khumbu district.

It is located in Nepal’s Far Mid-Eastern Himalayan ranges south of Mt. Everest. It is a popular place for trekkers, as Lukla is the gateway to various adventure destinations around the high Khumbu and Everest regions. Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport is named in tribute to late legendary mountaineers Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary. They reached the top of Mt. Everest on May the 29th 1953. The Lukla was also built with the financial support of Edmund Hillary from New Zealand. 

The runway is 527 m (1,729 feet) × 30 m (98 feet) with an 11.7% gradient. The airport’s elevation is 2,845 m / 9,334 ft. The Lukla Airport was built in 1964. Construction was done under the supervision of Sir Edmund Hillary. In 2001, the airport runway was properly paved. At Lukla, trekkers can find several facilities likewise Government-authorized Banks and ATMs. The mountains seen from Lukla are Kongde, Naulekh, or Kalo-Himal ridges which form the boundary of Dudh Koshi valley.

Note about Lukla Flight

For all mountainous regions helicopter services and Lukla, it depends upon the number of passengers. A maximum number of passengers of 5 persons, for a large group of passengers White Hill Adventure will organize another similar helicopter. In certain situations, when helicopters are not available, the company will operate a shuttle flight in the same helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla and vice-versa. The Helicopter flight cost to Lukla will be on a sharing basis, for interested people can charter on request.
